Help us choose the path for our next adventure!

Hey Friends! We wanted to say we miss you and the fun times we’ve had! We’ve been radio silent for a while and wanted to give you an update.

Symbiosis was born as a way to gather people who may have different music interests, yet are drawn to wellness, yoga, permaculture, art, and the psychedelic culture. While having yoga and live painting seems common today, in 2005 it was not even close to being a standard part of the festival scene. We helped midwife the west coast festival movement into being through dreams, innovation, and inspiration by mixing it with blood, sweat, and tears. In our hearts and minds, Oregon Eclipse completed a cycle for Symbiosis.

It’s hard to imagine creating another event like SG16 after producing Oregon Eclipse. Our core team used to tour with jambands, fly around the world for trance parties, and spend weeks in the dust. Now we are married with children and more interested in escape rooms, scavenger hunts, weird dinner parties, time with friends and family, and long discussions on how we are living in a simulation stuck on weird. It’s been a long strange trip that we wouldn’t change for the world. The idea of big gatherings is still intriguing, but how can they evolve?

At this moment in time, what inspires us must be novel and spectacular, which is why much of our team’s focus is on Patagonia. The site has been scouted, deals have been made, and a trip at the end of the month will formalize our relationships with the local indigenous tribes as well as the local government. It’s truly inspiring to be part of a cross-cultural collaboration with people from around the world to co-create an experience aligned with a Total Solar Eclipse.

With Symbiosis however, we are at a crossroads. We’re not really sure who our future crowd is. Is our crowd older? Have we picked up some youngsters? Is our crowd still into music festivals? What if music isn’t the focus? What if we try something new? We have a huge email list and thousands of likes on FB but what does that mean anymore?

Climate change is leading to extreme weather, species are dying at astronomical rates, the political process has divided populations more than ever, economic uncertainty is at an all time high, the Vatican is leaving Neverland and we’re just trying to throw a party?

Between the time off after eclipse and the obstacles that prevented SG19, we have this opportunity to make a conscious choice to custom-design specific novel experiences. We don’t want to canonize Symbiosis, we want it to evolve so that we impact the world in a meaningful way. We realize that if we change the format, we may lose some folks, but in our view it would be better to lose some who just loved what we were, so we can gather with people who love what we are becoming.

So in order to help us understand our community, please take part in this survey. This is an honest inquiry to see who’s willing to walk with us into a new future as we figure out what happens as Symbiosis transforms itself. (How fvcking meta is that?)

Who are we? What matters? Fill out the survey and join us on the next leg of the Symbiosis journey.
