Ecological destruction of our planet, an economy that is not working for planet or people, and conflict, polarization and disintegration of society are the trends that dominate our times. These problems cannot be addressed in separation. Sustainability is intrinsically linked with justice and peace. When we think of ourselves as one earth family, practicing Earth Democracy, we find solutions to the multiple crises we face. While the problems and challenges appear big, solutions lie within each of us. We can begin by changing the way we eat.
A global movement away from fossil fuel based industrial agriculture will feed the world while cooling the planet. As natural disasters strike with frightening frequency and resource scarcity causes conflict in Syria and across the globe, action is necessary against the destruction caused by the fossil fuel industry. We can meet the 2-degree emissions gap by 2020 with carbon sequestering organic agriculture. We can protect the planet and our health through our daily bread.
