With a worldwide DJ career, a showcase of four Dance Club Magazine Awards, an internationally renowned label, Pena is one of the leading Portuguese musical ambassadors. Pena is a musical lover. Open-minded but demanding, mixes intense and hypnotic sound atmospheres with invigorating and pumping beat explorations, taking elements across the spectrum of electronic dance music, from progressive to tech house, techno to deep and dubbed house, filtering them through an eclectic spiral emotion.
Pena in his teenage early years was totally into industrial and alternative bands from Ensturzende Neubauten to Sonic Youth slowly getting into the Portuguese electronic rave scene by the early nighties. In 1996 the Psychedelic scene was just starting in Portugal when Pena decided to change the laws for decks. Instead of following a lawyer’s career he devoted himself, totally and exclusively, to music. He started as a DJ, but soon after, in 2000, founded Flow Records.
This platform allowed him to invest on his own musical line, deep, steadfast and profound stories with surprisingly voluptuous and stimulating melodies. The label gave him a chance to interpret, even further, his groovy road of thinking and allowed him to travel continually all over the globe. From 2000 to 2004 all his dedication was distinguished by four prizes as Best Trance DJ at annual Dance Club Awards, organized by Dance Club Magazine, the only and respectful Portuguese Electronic Music Magazine.
In 2006, has created Flow Vinyl for a deeper, housier, technoish and progressive approach, setting pace on what he plays nowadays, having his releases been supported by the top jocks like Sasha, John Digweed, Hawtin, Marco Carola, Laurent Garnier, Seth Troxler, Armin Van Buuren, etc. We are set in 2016 and Flow continues with his flag hailing high. He is also a true globetrotter playing in major clubs like Ageha(Tokyo), Lux(Lisbon), Pacha(Porto), Ultra(Cancun), Double Six(Bali), Club A(Rio de Janeiro), Arkham(Shanghai) and major festivals like Boom, Rainbow Serpent, Rock In Rio, Fusion, Kazantip, Universo Paralello, Ozora, Tribe Brasil, Eclipse(Canada, Australia, Turkey, Morocco) and many many more.
Apart from that, he and his Flow team continues their love to create top class parties in their motherland, leading to the start of the renowned Flow parties in some amazing venues, blending techno and house, inviting talents to Portugal like Audiojack, Sebo K, Sebastian Mullaert, Petar Dundov, Gorge, Nakadia, Mathew Dekay, D-Nox & Beckers, Raxon, Metodi Hristov, Mark Henning, Uone, Lee Van Dowski, Extrawelt, Guy J, Minilogue, Secret Cinema, Egbert, Dosem, Max Cooper, Okain, Ramon Tapia, Mashtronic, Heiko Laux, Antix(Fiord), Jerome Isma-Ae, Ticon, to name a few…
From Lisbon to Bali where he splits his life nowadays, on top of all this activity, he keeps working as Boom Festival resident dj and musical advisor (after working a few years as main booking manager). What more to say of this influential and foremost pillar of world’s electronic music stage?! One thing we are sure, he will always keep the vibe flowing with punchy distinctiveness!
