Rebecca Anders is an Oakland, California-based thingmaker who focuses on the strange, ironic aspects of human society within the global biome. Her works are metal and mixed media sculpture, ranging from hand-held to forty feet tall.
Anders produces custom works as a solo artist and metal fabricator, often using repurposed materials like motorcycle tires and machine parts, as well as kinetic elements and flame effects. She has worked extensively with community-based organizations such as the Flaming Lotus Girls and the Flux Foundation, as a designer, organizer, and construction lead. With these and other groups, Anders has created and shown monumental interactive installations in the USA and internationally. She began going to the Burning Man festival in 1997, where she has contributed large-scale sculpture and work on art cars since 1999.
Rebecca Anders received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Cornell University in 1995, and has since then continued to study, teach, and create in the San Francisco Bay Area.
